GILLESPIE Chief of Police Curb, Gutter and Sidewalk Project - Need for Additional Funds As the City Council is aware, Mr. R.Z. Hernandez was awarded the contract for City wide curb, gutter, and sidewalk repair in the amount of $114,593.00 plus a loo contingency of $11,460.00 for a total construction cost of $126,053.00. The scope of the project focused upon areas of recently removed street trees which included the streets of Shasta, Sierra, Whitney, Palomar, Diablo, Ruth, First, Sherman, Dorothy, Sarah, Susan, Harry, Millard, Third, Second, North side of High, and Laurelhurst /Lantern . Additionally, direction was given to also include other areas where replacement of curb, gutter, and sidewalks may be needed. Staff initially identified additional areas of the greatest need to be included in the project area when bid. Not included in this project are Everett, Charles, and Magnolia as well as the cross gutter at the intersection of Charles and Bard. The City Engineer recommends reconstruction of this area during the street overlay project or overlay of the High Street sidewalk project as the work involved to correct this corner differs from standard curb and gutter replacement work. Upon award of the project, staff began marking the areas outlined in the bid documents for replacement. During the marking process, other areas were observed to be included in the project. Staff Recommendation: 1. Approve the additional curb, gutter and sidewalk replacement in areas specified above. 2. Authorize City Manager to negotiate with Mr. Hernandez for additional work as outlined by staff to a maximum amount of $154,000.00 (which includes a 10% contingency) . Balance of funds, $27,947.00, would be from account 03- 1142 -903 ($50,000) which would leave a balance of $20,000 for miscellaneous curb, gutter, and sidewalk work during the balance of the fiscal year 1988/89.
