KANE City Attorney PATRICK RICHARDS, A I.C.P. Director of Community Development R. DENNIS DELZEIT City Engineer JOHN V. GILLESPIE Chief of Police THOMAS P. GENOVESE City Treasurer SUBJECT: Miscellaneous Curb, Gutter, Sidewalk, and Road Repair Work As stated in the attached staff report from John Knipe, Assistant City Engineer, sealed bids were received and opened on May 29, 1988 for the Miscellaneous Road Repair Project. The apparent low bidder for the entire project with a bid of $114,593 is R. Z. Hernandez Engineering. Funds in the amount of $51,600 were set aside in fund 03 -142 -603, Street Improvements for City -wide curb, gutter and sidewalk repair. Total cost of this project including engineering costs of $10,000 and a 10% contingency of $11,460 is $136,053, leaving an unfunded balance of $84,450 to complete this project. Funds, in the amount of $84,450 can be obtained from budgeted but unspent projects in the Streets budget funded by gas tax as follows: 1. City wide Slury Seal Project $77,000. 2. City wide Overlay Program $82,800. Council may also choose to use the unspent AD -84 -2 funds in conjunction with the gas tax monies as deemed appropriate. The former Council has set a policy that AD -84 -2 funds be used for street tree trimming and removal but that gas tax be used for the repair /replacement of the curb, gutter and sidewalks. State law allows for AD -84 -2 assessments to be used for the landscape work done in conjunction with tree damage. 799 Moorpark Avenue Moorpark, California 93021 (805) 529 -6864 Staff recommends the use of gas tax for the total project funding. Staff Recommendations: 1. Award contract to R.Z. Hernandez for $114,592.50. 2. Approve an appropriation of $84,453 to fund the balance of the unbudgeted portions of the work. 3. Approve a 10% construction contingency in the amount of $11,460. 4. Authorize staff to add additional areas for repair but not to exceed the amount of $126,053.00 (Bid plus 10% contingency) Mo.- LIFO;ZNiA of .1y198q ACT 10'- 4 : y JOHN PATRICK LANE Mayor ELOISE BROWN Mayor Pro Tern JOHN GALLOWAY Councilmember CLINT HARPER, Ph.D. Councilmember BERNARDO M.
