The Broad Beach Geologic Hazard Abatement District is sponsoring a project to
replenish 600,000 cubic yards of sand on Broad Beach to address beach erosion.
Permits are required from the Coastal Commission and State Lands Commission,
among other agencies. The current contemplated sources of sand are the Grimes Rock
and CEMEX quarries north of Moorpark as well as the P.W. Gillibrand quarry in Simi
Valley. This project would result in 66,000 one-way truck trips, equivalent to one truck
trip in either direction every minute from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for the 139 -day
anticipated project schedule. City concerns are outlined in the attached draft letter to the
Broad Beach Geologic Hazard Abatement District Board of Directors.
Authorize Mayor to send letter on behalf of City to the Broad Beach Geologic Hazard
Abatement District Board of Directors expressing concerns of project impacts from
trucking through Moorpark.
