SUBJECT: Consider Appointment of City Council Ad Hoc Committee to Meet
with Moorpark Unified School District (District) Ad Hoc Committee
Pertaining to Possible Community Aquatic Facility
BACKGROUND
It has been a long standing goal of both the City and District to provide an aquatic
facility. There was substantial discussion between the two entities from approximately
2000 to mid-2002. At that time, both the City and District had concerns with ongoing
maintenance costs. On June 2002, the City Council acted to take no further action on
the design and construction of an aquatic facility. As was the case in 2002, the ability to
fund construction and maintenance with existing revenues remains an issue.
DISCUSSION
In late 2014 District Superintendent Kelli Hays contacted the City Manager to discuss
the concept of a City/District joint use aquatic facility. She subsequently requested that
the City consider appointing an Ad Hoc Committee to discuss this matter with a District
Ad Hoc Committee comprised of Board President Nathan Sweet and Board Member
Robert Perez. The City Manager supports her request and recommends that the Mayor
with City Council concurrence appoint a two member City Council Ad Hoc Committee
for this purpose.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Appoint a City Council Ad Hoc Committee to meet with Moorpark Unified School District
Board Ad Hoc Committee pertaining to possible community aquatic facility.
