Gilbert, Director of Public Works DATE: January 5, 2001 (Council Meeting 1- 17 -01) SUBJECT: Consider Changing the Name of Miller Drive (Formerly Science Drive) to Miller Parkway BACKGROUND On May 17, 2000, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 2000 -1743 changing the name of that portion of Science Drive south of New Los Angeles Avenue to Miller Drive. On December 20, 2000, the City Council directed staff to proceed with the steps necessary to change the name of this street to Miller Parkway. The changing of the street name signs from Science Drive to Miller Drive has been delayed due to design problems encountered with Caltrans regarding the installation of a "double street name sign" [Science Drive to the north and Miller Drive to the south] at the intersection of Science Drive and New Los Angeles Avenue. Staff is hopeful that these design problems will be resolved soon and that we will then be able to proceed with the changing of the street name signs. DISCUSSION A. Authority Section 34091.1 of the Government Code of the State of California provides that the name of any street within a City may be changed by adoption of a City Council Resolution. B. Public Notice A public hearing is not required in order for the City Council to take the subject action. However, a letter (Exhibit 1) advising of the City's intent to take that action, was sent to all affected property owners and public agencies (see list attached as Exhibit 2). Resolution: Street Name Change Attached as Exhibit 4 is a Resolution changing the name of the subject segment to Miller Parkway and rescinding Resolution No. 2000 -1743. The Resolution directs the City Clerk to forward a copy of the Resolution to the County Board of Supervisors as required by Section 34091.1 of the Government Code. RECOMMENDATION Adopt Resolution No. 2001- changing the street name for the subject street segment. C �l?Q? NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MOORPARK DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Resolution No. 2000 -1743 is hereby rescinded. SECTION 2. The name for Miller Drive [formerly that portion of Science Drive between New Los Angeles Avenue and Tierra Rejada Road (see Exhibit 'A')] is hereby changed to Miller Parkway. SECTION 3. The City Clerk is directed to forward a copy of this Resolution to the Board of Supervisors of the County of Ventura, in accordance with the requirements of Section 34092 of the Government Code of the State of California. v ;liGiJ Resolution No. 2001 - Page 2 SECTION 4.
