CITY OF MOORPARK
ITEM r!• -•
TO: Honorable City Council
FROM: Mary R. Lindley, Assistant to the City Manage5r)
DATE: February 11, 1994
SUBJECT: Consider Terminiation of Local Emergency Status
Background
As a result of action taken by Council on February 2, 1994, the
City is currently operating under the status of a Local Emergency
due to the January 17 earthquake. As required by Government Code
8630, the City must review the emergency status every 14 days.
Aftershocks have decreased in both numbers and severity, and the
City is now operating in a recovery mode. For this reason, staff
proposes that Council terminate the Local Emergency status.
Staff has been in contact with Federal Emergency Management Agency
(FEMA) and State Office of Emergency (OES) representatives and has
begun the process of requesting reimbursement for damage and
recovery expenses. To date, the City sustained approximately
$820,000 in damages to private and public property. Three
structures have been tagged as unsafe with no entry permitted - two
residential and one commercial. Sixty -six structures have been
tagged as safe only for restrictive use - five commercial and
sixty -four residential.
Recommendation
Staff recommends that Council find that a Local Emergency no longer
exists and adopt Resolution 94- an end to the status
of a Local Emergency.
