AGENDA REPORT
The Honorable City Council
Christine Adams, Director of Community Servic -_
March 24, 1994 (Meeting of April 6, 1994)
Consider Fourth of July Community Picnic
In 1993, as part of the City's 10th Anniversary Celebration, the
Community Services Department sponsored a community picnic at
Arroyo Vista Park on July 4. This event was attended by
approximately 300 people and wac well received by those who
attended.
The 1993 picnic included participation from Tierra Relada Ranch,
who provided hay rides around the park all day, as well as musical
entertainment from the Countryside Band (paid) and the Shiloh
Church band (donated). Other volunteers assisted staff in
providing traditional picnic games, such as tug -of -war, three
legged races, and sack races.
Because of the participation by volunteers, the direct costs to
the City were minimal. This was not a budgeted event for 1993 -94.
While the event will take place at the beginning of the 1994 -95
fiscal year, expenditures must be incurred in 1993 -94. Staff is
requesting that the City Counci. approve an appropriation of
$500.00 from Fund 33 to cover staff. costs and other expenses
related to this event and authorizE Staff to begin advertising the
Fourth of July Community Family Pl.c.,:,
The event will have the same focus as last year, however staff is
planning to involve more comml.,nity groups and offer more
activities to the picnic participants. The City will, in addition
to coordinating those groups pr vide prizes and decorations.
Staff will seek entertainment that ionated by local groups.
Appropriate $500.00 from Fund 33 and transfer to 01.148.642 for a
Fourth of July Community Family Picn.c, tc) be held at Arroyo Vista
