AGENDA REPORT
CITY OF MOORPARK
TO: Honorable City Council
FROM: Mary R. Lindley, Assistant to the City Manager
DATE: May 13, 1994 (CC Meeting of May 18)
SUBJECT: Consider Adoption of Resolution 94- Approving the
City's Application for Financial Assistance for
Earthquake Damage and Authorizing the City Manager
to Sign on behalf of the City
Background
The City submitted a request for financial assistance to the State
Office of Emergency Services (OES) and the Federal Emergency
Management Agency (FEMA) for damages sustained as a result of the
January 17 Northridge earthquake. Our request has been processed
and before it can be approved, OES is asking that the City approve
the attached Resolution.
The Resolution indicates the Council's approval of the City's
request for financial assistance. In addition, at OES's request,
it designates the City Manager as the City's representative
authorized to sign request forms on behalf of the City.
To date, the total amount of the City's request is $29,000. As you
may recall, the City's request includes demolition of the Dorothy
Avenue wall, demolition of the Mayflower Market and asbestos
removal, and reimbursement of staff time. In addition, staff
recently submitted an addendum to the City's original request to
include demolition and construction of a retaining wall located at
15508 Mallory Court. This is the residential property the City
currently owns. The retaining wall was damaged in the earthquake
and staff proposes that the City share the cost of rebuilding the
wall with the adjacent property owner.
Recommendation
Staff recommends that the City Council adopt Resolution 94-
approving the City's application for financial assistance for
earthquake damages and authorizing the City Manager to sign on
behalf of the City.
