AGENDA REPORT
CITY OF MOORPARK
TO: Honorable City Council
FROM: Mary R. Lindley, Assistant to the City Manager J
DATE: November 7, 1994
SUBJECT: Consider Support for the City of Fillmore's efforts
to Improve Public Safety on Highway 126
Background
On November 2, Councilmember Roger Campbell from the City of
Fillmore appeared before City Council to request support for
Fillmore's efforts to improve public safety on Highway 126 between
Fillmore and Piru. Reportedly, there have been 29 fatalities on
Highway 126 during the past five years. Since many of the traffic
fatalities on Highway 126 occur as a result of head -on collisions,
the City of Fillmore is attempting to get Caltrans to install
concrete barriers.
On November 4, the Ventura County Transportation Commission's staff
reported that Caltrans is currently reviewing Fillmore's request.
Specifically, it is evaluating the placement of the barriers and
the location of opening to facilitate cross flow traffic. Caltrans
expects to be in a position to respond by the end of November.
Recommendation
Staff recommends that the City Council send a letter to Caltrans
signed by the Mayor and the Councilmembers, with a copy to the
County, supporting the City of Fillmore's efforts to improve public
safety on Highway 126.
