ACT13:: L DATE: January 27, 1993 (CC Meeting of February 3, 1993) SUBJECT: CONSIDER RESOLUTION NO. 93 -,W_ IN SUPPORT OF THE CITY OF SIMI VALLEY'S EFFORTS TO RECEIVE GRANT FUNDING FOR THE SIMI VALLEY RECYCLABLE HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE (HHW) FACILITY. SUMMARY The City of Simi Valley is submitting a grant application for their recyclable household hazardous waste (HHW) facility. Simi Valley is requesting input from Moorpark staff, and is also requesting the City of Moorpark to provide a "Resolution of Support" to include in the HHW grant package. Simi Valley is requesting grant funding for the facility construction costs, initial operating costs, and public education targeting HHW waste stream reduction. The California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) is accepting applications for Discretionary grants for the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Grant Program for grant year 1992/1993. Discretionary grants provide funding for proposed programs and expansion of existing programs. Proposed programs are those commencing in the fiscal year following the application period. Grant applications are due February 26, 1993. Simi Valley submitted a similar grant application with Moorpark's input last year. The grant was approved, however, State funding was insufficient to award all the grantees, and a funding priority list was established. Simi Valley was not high enough on the list to receive funding. Because each grant cycle requires new submittal of applications, Simi Valley is submitting a similar application. Any funding received from the grant will be applied, and the remaining costs will be distributed based on population and use among the three jurisdictions (Simi Valley, Moorpark, and County un- incorporated areas). Simi Valley indicated that Moorpark's portion of the costs will be 250.
