The evening's activities were sponsored by Citizens for Cinco de Mayo 1992. Citizens for Cinco de Mayo have approached the city regarding co- sponsorship of this event again. For their part, the organization will be conducting the dinner, dance and coronation from 5:30 pm - 11:30 pm. They are requesting that for the evening activities facility fees be waived and that the City fund their Mariachi band that evening at a cost of $550.00. In 1992, the City Council waived all facility charges except direct staff costs and paid $550.00 for a Mariachi band. This year, the requested funding for the band was calculated in the annual budget of $2000 for this event. The facility fee schedule indicates that for city co- sponsored activities, the other sponsoring organization shall pay staff direct costs. Actual direct costs for set up and clean up in 1992 were $122.00. Staff recommends acceptance of Citizens for Cinco de Mayo as a co- sponsor of the event and that the City Council direct staff to assess direct costs to Citizens for Cinco de Mayo at an estimated $225.00 ($25.00 per hour for 9 hours - 1 hour set up, 2 hours clean up, 6 hours program) and authorize $550.00 for the funding of the mariachi band for the evening program.
