SUBJECT: Consider Authorizing Soliciting Bids for the
Acquisition of a Street Marking Truck for Public Works
OVERVIEW
This presents the specifications for the subject acquisition and
request's authorization to solicit bids.
BACKGROUND
Historically, the City's striping needs have been provided by
contract. The budget for Fiscal Year 1992/93 includes funds in
the amount of $40,000 for the acquisition of a street marking
truck to allow this function to be performed in -house by the
Public Works Department. This purchase will improve the cost -
effective delivery of this program and enable staff to be more
responsive in meeting the striping needs of the City.
The specifications were developed with assistance from Dave Roth
of the City of Santa Monica, and William Howseman of Dispensing
Technology Corporation. The bid documents provide for an
add /deduct bid - alternate to allow for the submittal of bids for
an alternate fuel powered stencil truck. This will allow staff
and City Council to consider ordering the truck with an
alternate fuel system.
