Gilbert, Director of Public Works ARK, CAUFORNW - ly Co I Meeting DATE: March 30, 1993 (Council Meeting 4 -7 -93) 199-3 SUBJECT: Consider Report Regarding the Street Striping ",cTloN: Design for Peach Hill Road BY BACKGROUND The City Council recently awarded a contract for the construction of an asphalt overlay on certain streets including Peach Hill Road from Williams Ranch Road northerly and easterly to Spring Road. DISCUSSION When the asphalt overlay is completed the contractor will be required to restripe the street. It is recommended that this restriping effort include the addition of Bike Lane lines on Peach Hill Road from the northerly boundary of Peach Hill Park (Honeybee Street) northerly and easterly to Spring Road. The contractor has been provided with revised striping plans and has been asked to provide the City with a cost for this additional work. The revised striping plan calls for five feet (51) wide Bike Lanes east of Rolling Knoll Road. The curb -to -curb width of the street at Rolling Knoll Drive is forty -three feet (431) enabling us to retain the left turn lanes at this intersection. The curb -to -curb width of the remainder of Peach Hill Road is only forty feet (401) wide. From Rolling Knoll Road westerly to Mesa Verde, the Bike Lane on the south side of the street will be five feet (5' ) wide. The Bike Lane on the north side of the street will be twelve feet (121) wide to accommodate both the Bike Lane and vehicle parking in front of houses fronting that portion of the street. The centerline will be off -set accordingly. In those areas where there are no houses fronting the street, the Bike Lane will be reduced to eight feet ( 8' ) wide to discourage parking. The same striping design will continue southerly to Honeybee Street to accommodate parking, where required, on the west side of the street. The Bike Lane lines will terminate at Honeybee Street, the northerly boundary of Peach Hill Park. pchstp Peach Hill Road Striping Page 2 In that vehicle parking is permitted on both sides of the Peach Hill Road along the frontage of the park, there is insufficient room to accommodate striped Bike Lane lines. It is necessary, therefore, to leave this portion of the street as a Class III (unmarked) Bike route. Staff is continuing to look at options to allow the placement of a Bike Lanes in this area. When a workable plan is developed and implemented, that restriping effort could include that portion of Peach Hill Road between Williams Ranch Road and Tierra Rejada Road. Receive and file the report. pchstp
