AGENDA REPORT
The Honorable City Council
ITEM • T
FROM: Christine Adams, Director of Community ServicetJ
DATE: October 12, 1993 (Meeting of October 20, 1993)
SUBJECT: Consider ReavDointments to Senior Center Advisory
Committee.
The Senior Center Advisory Committee is completing their first
year of service to the city. The City Council is scheduled to
reappoint the members by December 1. 1993
The original design of the committee was to have five members,
appointed by the City Council, who would provide community -based
input for the Senior Center Coordinator regarding the needs and
interests of senior citizens in Moorpark.
In the application process last year, the City Council received
seven applications for appointments, and chose at that time to
appoint all seven applicants.
Currently, there are six committee members, as one member (who had
a one year term) resigned. Staff feels that due to its size. a
seven member committee has not been as productive and has required
more time than the usual five member committee, and is
respectfully requesting that the City Council consider limiting
the committee membership to five persons.
Four of the remaining six members have a two year term.
Therefore, the advertising for applicants to serve on the Senior
Advisory Committee would be to fill only one position,
With City Council direction, the application process will be open
immediately, and will close by the third week of November,
allowing the Mayor and City Council approximately 10 days to
review the applications prior to appointing a new committee member
on December 1, 1993..
1. Concur to modify committee to consist of five members and
direct staff to advertise the vacancy pursuant to MOP No.. 7
2. Modify Senior Center Advisory Committee Guidelines to reflect
a five member committee.
