MEMORANDUM
TO: The Honorable City Council
FROM: Kenneth C. Gilbert, Director of Public Works
DATE: January 2, 1992 (Council Meeting 1 -8 -92)
SUBJECT: Consider Approval of Funding of an Additional
Crossing Guard the Remainder of the School Year
This requests approval of the funding of an eighth Crossing
Guard for the remainder of the current School Year.
Last September the City Council approved interim funding of
an eighth Crossing Guard through the end.of January, to be
posted at Arroyo West School. Staff was. directed to evaluate
expenditures for this period and report back to the City
Council on overall program expenditures and requirements.
The September report discussed the fact that revenue sources
for this program had been cut and that the fringe benefit
costs for part-time employees had increased. The report also
mentioned that the Crossing Guard schedules had been reviewed
and that the hours at many of the posts had been reduced for
the 91/92 school year. It appeared at that time that the
amount of funds budgeted for this program would be sufficient
to fund the deployment of Crossing Guards at all eight
locations.
A recent review of expenditures to date supports the earlier
belief that there are sufficient funds budgeted to fund the
program with eight Crossing Guards.
