Gilbert, Director of Public Works DATE: February 25, 1992 (Council Meeting 3 -4 -92) SUBJECT: Consider Proposal to Change the Names of Certain Streets OVERVIEW (805) 529 -6864 �c C; y Council Moet!ng �f 199 t:CTION: 7 This presents a discussion of suggestions to change the names of certain streets as follows:12 Present Street Name Tierra kejada Road Villa Avenue Los Angeles Place BACKGROUND Limits From To Proposed Street Name Los Angeles Ave. 23 Freeway Gabbert Road Liberty Bell Road Juarez Avenue Villa Campesina Avenue Avenida Colonia S. Condor Dr. -- Undetermined -- At your last meeting the City Council directed staff to proceed with efforts necessary to change the name of Los Angeles Avenue to High Street, and New Los Angeles Avenue to Los Angeles Avenue. At that time, staff was directed to bring back before the City Council certain other proposed street name changes. DISCUSSION 1. Villa Avenue: In an effort to better identify the neighborhood of Villa Campesina, it has been suggested that the name of Villa Avenue be changed to Villa Campesina Avenue. 2. Tierra Rejada Road: One major street in the City has two names: Tierra Rejada Road and Gabbert Road. It has been suggested that this be corrected by changing the name of Tierra Rejada Road within the City limit to Gabbert Road. If so directed, staff will contact the County of Ventura and the City of Simi Valley to determine their interest in participating in this change. PAUL W. LAWRASON JR. BERNARDO M. Los Angeles Place: At your last meeting the City Council addressed the duplicity of the use of Los Angeles as a street name. One more such street is Los Angeles Place: a short street between the east end of Avenida Colonia and S. Condor Street. No new street name has yet been suggested. RECOMMENDED ACTION Direct Staff as deemed appropriate.
