HONORABLE CITY COUNCIL
RICHARD HARE, DEPUTY CITY MANA E
April 30, 1992
SUBJECT: Consider Authorizing the Mayor to Send a Letter to
the Thousand Oaks City Council Expressing Concern
With Their Decision to Contract for Animal Control
Services with Los Angeles County
Background
The Thousand Oaks City Council has decided to terminate their
contract with Ventura County for animal control services and to
initiate a contract with Los Angeles County for the same
services. Concern has been expressed that this decision will
negatively impact animal control services in Ventura County.
Further, as cities attempt to hold the line on costs of
traditional services, this action by the city of Thousand Oaks
will reduce the number of cities that cooperatively fund the
fixed costs of animal control services in Ventura County.
The Council requested at their last meeting that this item be
placed on the agenda to authorize the Mayor to send a letter to
the Thousand Oaks City Council expressing the City of Moorpark's
concerns regarding their decision.
Recommendation
Direct the Mayor to send a letter expressing concern with City of
Thousand Oaks decision.
