Background The Public Library Learning and Literacy Expansion Act of 1992, SB 1230, calls for $150 million in State bond funds for pubic library construction and renovation. The bill is scheduled to be heard by the Assembly Banking, Finance and Bonded Indebtedness Committee by mid -June. If successful, the issue will be placed on the November 1992 ballot for voter approval. If approved by the voters, the funds would be awarded on a competitive basis, with the State paying 65% of the project cost and local or county jurisdiction providing a 35% match. Recommendation Direct the Mayor to send a letter of support for SB 1230 (Keene), the Public Library Learning and Literacy Expansion Act of 1992 to the appropriate legislative committee members.
