TO: The Honorable City Council
FROM: Baldemar Troche, Public Works Management Analyst
3 C
DATE: October 26 , 1992 (City Council Meeting of November 4 ,
1992)
SUBJECT: CONSIDER APPROVAL OF AN INCREASE IN THE CONTRACT AMOUNT
FOR THE SIDEWALK REPLACEMENT PROJECT (QUIGLEY)
OVERVIEW
This presents a summary of revised quantities for the subject
project and recommends approval of an increase in the contract
amount.
DISCUSSION
A. Background
The purpose of this project is to replace curb, gutter,
sidewalk and trees at certain locations throughout the City
where existing improvements are either substandard or missing.
On August 19, 1992, City Council awarded the subject project
to Quigley Construction in the amount of $35,868.88. Since
the project began, other areas with damaged sidewalks have
been reported.
B. Increase in Project Cost
The August 19, 1992 staff report authorized a ten percent
contingency ($3 ,586 .89) of the initial contract amount. The
revised amount, $8 ,238. 37, exceeds that contingency.
Exhibit "A" details the revised increase in quantities.
C. Fiscal Impact
The FY 1992-93 Budget provides funds in the amount of $50,000
(Acc #1142-903) for this and similar projects.
