BACKGROUND At the October 7, 1992 City Council meeting, staff was directed to proceed with a preliminary plan for the City of Moorpark ' s 10th Anniversary . The Parks and Recreation Commission had appointed Commissioners John Hall and Sandy Thompson to serve as a sub-committee for the anniversary planning. They met with staff and Councilman John Wozniak to discuss the list of ideas provided by the City Council in late October . This committee took the list of 26 activities and narrowed it down to 14 separate activities that will commemorate the anniversary. These activities are: ACTIVITIES PRIOR TO JULY 1, 1993 5 & 10 K Run * Historical Displays / Walking Tours City Hall Open House Pancake Breakfast * • Summer Concerts * Banners/Pins/Mugs, etc . with special anniversary logo+ Decorate Store Fronts in Business Areas, especially downtown * PAUL W.LAWRASON JR. Hot Air Balloon Festival * - Saturday morning Stagecoach / Buggy Rides* - Saturday afternoon States Picnic / Tri-Tip Barbecue* - Sunday afternoon + It is intended to have anniversary items available to sponsor or purchase. Any profit from the sale of these items will be used to defray program expenses, or add additional program elements. * These are activities that the committee felt should be sponsored by other community groups or businesses, without impacting City funds. The Parks and Recreation Commission reviewed these activities at their November 10th meeting and recommend adoption of this action plan by the City Council . Other activities can be added, at the discretion of the City, as funding is available and/or if there is no impact on city funding. Additional activities could be held after the anniversary weekend if there is an interest in carrying out celebratory activities throughout the year. Staff will be working closely with local graphic artists in designing an anniversary logo design which will be revealed in early 1993 . The logo will be selected by the Tenth Anniversary Committee of Councilman John Wozniak, Commissioner John Hall and Commissioner Sandy Thompson. Staff will be working with the Committee and with other groups and businesses on scheduling and other administrative tasks related to the Tenth Anniversary Celebration. RECOMMENDATION Accept the Parks and Recreation Commission recommendation to approve proposed program elements and designate Councilmember John Wozniak to continue to represent the City Council on the 10th Anniversary Planning Committee.
