AGENDA REPORT
TO: The Honorable City Council J
FROM: Christine Adams, Director of Community Service
DATE: August 25, 1993 (Meeting of September 8, 1993)
At the June, 1993 Town Hall meeting, the City Council was made
aware of a concern by the residents living at the northwest end of
the Monte Vista Nature Park. The concerns were centered around
the loitering of teenagers late at night near the park entrance
off of Laurelhurst Road.
During the 1993 -94 budget process. the City Council appropriated
$2500.00 to construct an 8 foot wrought iron fence with a gate to
be placed near the street entrance to the park off of Laurelhurst.
The Marlborough Home Owners Association has agreed to allow the
city to construct this fence, part of which will be on HOA
property. In addition, the homeowner who lives closest to this
entry way has agreed to be responsible for unlocking the gate in
the morning and locking it at night. Staff will perform this
function when the resident is unavailable. This offered volunteer
service will save the City in additional staff time.
Staff has received three bids on the fence work, all within the
allocated budgeted amount, and will be proceeding with
construction within the month. The bids are based on an 8 foot
height, but staff will review this to determine if a height
between 6 and 8 feet is better for aesthetic reasons.
RECOMMENDATION
Concur with the procedure and arrangement for monitoring the gate
and receive and file the report.
