A_ I ,i� i j The Honorable City of Moorpark AGENDA REPORT City Council l FROM: Christine Adams, Director of Community ITEM 11• J Service DATE: August 27, 1993 (Meeting of September 8, 1993) SUBJECT: Ovdate on Youth SDorts Orcanizations Using City Fields This item was reviewed by the City Council on August 18, 1993, and referred back to the Public Works, Facilities, and Solid Waste Committee (Montgomery and Wozniak) for further study on August 25, 1993. The Committee concurred with a proposal by staff to require Youth Sports Organizations to extraordinary maintenance use fee. Parks and Recreation Commissioners Sandra Thompson and Ginger Stratton were also present at this meeting. At this meeting, the following issues were identified: • All sports groups present gave staff a commitment to reimburse the City, either financially or with in -kind services, all identifiable extraordinary maintenance costs that would be associated with their use of sports fields and hardscapes. • A tentative schedule was worked out for the fall and winter seasons between the sports groups, providing moderate to low impact on all identified parks (see attached). The spring sports (little league, girls softball and Express Soccer) will meet to coordinate schedules with staff in January. • The representatives present expressed a firm interest in working collectively to assist the City with the improvements at city parks, specifically at Arroyo Vista Community Park. The group has set the date for a second meeting for September 23, at which time the sports group representatives would identify individual and collective resources available to make improvements to the Arroyo Vista Community Park. Staff will facilitate this meeting. The response among the sports groups at this meeting was very positive, and the representatives were very interested in creating an informal partnership with the City to advance the improvements for the city parks and facilities.
