DATE: August 27, 1993 (Meeting of September 8, 1993)
SUBJECT: Ovdate on Youth SDorts Orcanizations Using City Fields
This item was reviewed by the City Council on August 18, 1993, and
referred back to the Public Works, Facilities, and Solid Waste
Committee (Montgomery and Wozniak) for further study on August 25,
1993.
The Committee concurred with a proposal by staff to require Youth

On Thursday, August 26, 1993, staff met with representatives from
Little League, Packers Football, AYSO, Moorpark Basketball
Association, Express Soccer, and Girls Softball. Parks and
Recreation Commissioners Sandra Thompson and Ginger Stratton were
also present at this meeting.
At this meeting, the following issues were identified:
• All sports groups present gave staff a commitment to
reimburse the City, either financially or with in -kind services,
all identifiable extraordinary maintenance costs that would be
associated with their use of sports fields and hardscapes.
• A tentative schedule was worked out for the fall and
winter seasons between the sports groups, providing moderate to
low impact on all identified parks (see attached). The spring
sports (little league, girls softball and Express Soccer) will
meet to coordinate schedules with staff in January.
• The representatives present expressed a firm interest in
working collectively to assist the City with the improvements at
city parks, specifically at Arroyo Vista Community Park. The
group has set the date for a second meeting for September 23, at
which time the sports group representatives would identify
individual and collective resources available to make improvements
to the Arroyo Vista Community Park. Staff will facilitate this
meeting.
The response among the sports groups at this meeting was very
positive, and the representatives were very interested in creating
an informal partnership with the City to advance the improvements
for the city parks and facilities.
Direct staff as deemed appropriate.
