Gilbert, Director of Public Works DATE: November 8, 1992 (Council Meeting 11- 17 -93) SUBJECT: Consider Revisions to Contract for Engineering Services OVERVIEW This presents a request for an increase in the rates to be charged for Engineering Services. DISCUSSION A. Background: In March of 1991 the City entered into an Agreement for City Engineering Services with Charles Abbott Associates. B. Retainer: Section I, Paragraphs A & B of the Agreement provide for an automatic adjustment to the retainer for City Engineer and Traffic Engineering Services, each November 1 based on the change in the Consumer Price Index. No action is required by the City Council to effectuate this change. The change is the amount of the Engineering retainers, effective November 1, 1993, is as follows: Prior Revised Amount ($) Service Amount LSD Effective 11 -1 -93 City Engineer 2,248 Traffic Engineer 354 2,306 363 C. Hourly Rates: In addition, Section I, Paragraph I of the Agreement provides for the consideration of a request for an adjustment to the hourly rates for Engineering Services each November, based on the change in the Consumer Price Index. The attached letter from Charles Abbott Associates requests such a change. Rates for Engineering Services November 1993 Page 2 Subject to the approval of the City Council, such an adjustment shall become effective on November 1 of each year. Said adjustment shall be equal to the increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the U. S. City Average for All Urban Consumers All Items, for the twelve month period ending the prior August, provided said increase does not exceed seven per cent (7 %). The amount of the increase in the specified CPI is 2.6 %. Attached to the request is a revised Exhibit 'B' to the Agreement setting forth the current rates along with revised rates based on this 2.6% increase. Charles Abbott has requested that this rate increase be made effective retro - actively to November 1, 1993. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends that the City Council approve a 2.60 increase in the rates for Engineering Services to be made effective retro- actively to November 1, 1993. wp \rpt \engfee94 CAAAA CHARLES ABBOTT ASSOCIATES, INC. The proposed increase will be 2.6% as dictated by our current agreement and the Consumer Price Index for the period Aug. 1992 thru August 1993, and will take effect November 1, 1992. Attached is an itemization of the contract categories showing the related fees and hourly rates which will be changing.
