Gilbert, Director of Public Works DATE: February 11, 1991 (Council Meeting 2-20-91) SUBJECT: Acceptance of 1990 Slurry Seal Project OVERVIEW This presents for approval the Notice of Completion for the subject project. DISCUSSION A. Background In May of 1990 the City Council awarded a contract to Asphalt Maintenance of California, for the application of slurry seal to certain residential streets. B. problem Areas The work was performed in late June and early July. Certain areas were rejected as being unacceptable. Upon investigation, it was determined that slurry material in those areas had been applied on top of crack filler material without allowing ample time for the crack filler material to properly cure. After lengthy discussions with the Contractor it was agreed that the slurry material would be removed from the "problem" areas to allow the crack filler material to cure, and then a new slurry seal would be applied. Final Inspection and Acceptance The Director of Public Works has completed a final inspection of the project, and has found the work to be acceptable. At this time it would be appropriate for the City Council to accept the project as completed, direct the City Clerk to file a Notice of Completion upon completion of the maintenance period and authorize release of the retention.
