SUBJECT: LOS ANGELES AVENUE WIDENING (WEST)
ACCEPTANCE OF IMPROVEMENTS
DISCUSSION
The City Engineer has completed his final inspection of the subject project and all work is
complete and in conformance with the plans and specifications. At this time, it is
appropriate for the City Council to accept the work as complete, instruct the City Clerk to
file a Notice of Completion and authorize release of the 10 percent retention pending
clearance of the 35-day lien period.
The final construction cost for this project was:
Original Bid Amount: $420,772.90
Change Orders: $ 18,570.04
Quantity Adjustments: <$2,858.93>
Work for Property Owners: $ 32.252.66
Total Construction Cost: $468,736.67
The change order amount included installation of an irrigation crossover on Shasta Avenue,
construction of a concrete storm drain lid and construction of off-site pavement transitions
per Caltrans requirements. This change order was previously pointed out to City Council
in a Project Status Report on December 5, 1990.
The quantity adjustments are for final payment based on actual constructed quantities. The
work for property owners was to pave-out and construct curb, gutter and sidewalk. This
work has been reimbursed to the City by each respective property owner.

Under the terms of the contract, D.W. Burhoe Construction, Inc. will remedy, without cost
to the City, any defects caused by inferior materials or workmanship for a period of(1) one
year following the date of the recordation of the Notice of Completion.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council take the following actions:
1. Accept the work as complete.
2. Instruct the City Clerk to file a Notice of Completion for the project.
3. Authorize the release of the 10 percent retention pending final clearance of
the 35-day lien period.
