SUBJECT: MOORPARK AVENUE • POINDEXTER AVENUE TRAFFIC SIGNAL
AWARD OF CONTRACT
BACKGROUND INFORMATION

On March 1, 1991, five sealed bids for construction of the subject traffic signal were opened.
The engineer's estimated cost of construction was $100,000. The following is a list of the
Contractors and their bid amounts.
1. Taft Electric $ 88,543
2. Steiny and Company $ 92,400 .
3. Inspection Maintenance Service $ 97,111
4. Medeiros Electric $100,000
5. Raymor Electric $119,300
Therefore, the low bid is $88,543. Taft Electric is a local firm, experienced and qualified
to perform this work. They have constructed the three existing signals on Tierra Rejada
Road and the traffic signal at the Los Angeles Avenue -Condor Drive intersection.
The City has already ordered the traffic signal poles and mast arms for this project and they
are scheduled to be delivered to the project site on April 15, 1991. Caltrans will be
providing the signal controller and controller cabinet as long as the City replenishes their
stock. The total construction cost is estimated to be:
1. Construction $ 88,543
2. Signal Poles $ 6,360
3. Controller $ 5300

Construction is expected to begin during the first week of April. Construction will take
approximately six weeks with signal turn-on to occur by mid-May.
RECOMMENDED ACTION
Award the Poindexter Avenue Traffic Signal Project to Taft Electric Company.
