Director of Community Development JOHN F. KNIPE City Engineer JOHN V. GILLESPIE Chief of Police RICHARD T. HARE City Treasurer - FROM: Philip E. Newhouse, Director of Community Services DATE: March 1, 1991 SUBJECT: Consider Solicitation Letter for Cinco De Mayo Event BACKGROUND: At the February 19, 1991 Cinco De Mayo committee meeting, Mr. August Godinez, Chairman of the Youth Activities Subcommittee, expressed the need to solicit donations for support of the youth activities portion of this event. I informed Mr. Godinez the City currently has not authorized approval to solicit donations for the Cinco De Mayo event on behalf of the City. Mr. Godinez indicated without donations, the current event budget could not provide for the activities being planned and asked if the City could provide a letter for the purpose of soliciting donations. DISCUSSION: Attached for Council's consideration is a draft letter for use by the Cinco De Mayo committee to solicit donations to assist with supporting this year's Cinco De Mayo event. This letter will be used only for the express purpose of soliciting donations for activities other than the Queen contest. Staff has clearly informed the Cinco De Mayo committee the City will not be involved in the Queen event function of this activity. As Council is aware, the City did not participate in the Queen event function of last year's Cinco De Mayo activity. 799 Moorpark Avenue Moorpark, California 93021 (805) 529 -6864 Additional information concerning the budget, event security and other matters will be reported to the Council in the near future.
