SUBJECT: Amtrak Stop in Moorpark
The Mayor and Supervisor Vicky Howard have had two recent
discussions regarding the initiation of Amtrak rail service in
Moorpark. Amtrak service differs from commuter rail service
(proposed for Moorpark in late 1992) because it typically operates
during off -peak hours. At the present time, no trains stop at the
Moorpark station. In the past, Moorpark was serviced by Caltrain,
but the lack of operating subsidies caused this service to be
discontinued.
Supervisor Howard has indicated her willingness to discuss with
Amtrak officials the possibility of stopping in Moorpark.
Staff Recommendation
Authorize the Mayor to pursue the possibility of Amtrak rail
service in Moorpark.
