S DEJECT Letter of Support for the Southern California
Regional Rail Authority's Application for 108 and
116 Bond Funds
The Southern California Regional Rail Authority (of which the
Ventura County Transportation Commission is a member and to which
Mayor Lawrason is an alternate) has submitted an application for
Proposition 108 and 116 rail bond funds. The Authority will
implement and manage commuter rail operations which are scheduled
to begin in the fall of 1992. In Ventura County, these funds will
be used to purchase railroad right-of-way, exclusive operating
rights, and the County's share of equipment and maintenance
facilities.
The Authority is requesting its member agencies and affected cities
to send letters of support for the application. During the initial
phase of the rail project in Ventura County, stations are planned
for Simi Valley and Moorpark. Simi Valley has already submitted
its letter of support.
Staff Recommendation
Authorize the Mayor to send a letter of support for the Southern
California Regional Rail Authority's application for 108 and 116
bond funds.
