SUBJECT: Donation from Griffin Family for Griffin
Park Improvements
BACKGROUND:
The City Council considered renaming Paul E. Griffin, Sr.
Park at the February 21, 1990 Council meeting. During that
meeting, Mr. Paul Griffin, Jr., who was present, spoke on
behalf of the family to retain the park's name. Mr. Griffin
additionally committed that the Griffin family pay for one of
the future facilities planned for development at the park and
share in the cost of relocating the park monument sign.
DISCUSSION:
Staff met with Mr. Gregg Griffin on August 5 to discuss the
Griffin family offer. Mr. Griffin indicated due to the
sagging economy and the current slump in home sales, the
Griffin family is not able at this time to contribute as much
toward the park's development as previously anticipated.
However, Mr. Griffin assured me the Griffin family would be
donating Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000) to the City to assist
with the park's development and relocation of the park
monument sign.
Mr. Griffin further indicated should the housing market
improve, the family may be in a position to contribute
additionally in the future towards the park's development.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
