Kellerman, City Clerk DATE: October 30, 1991 (805) 529 -6864 t I ,sal t �v SUBJECT: CONSIDER REQUEST FOR AMICUS SUPPORT - CITY OF ORLAND BACKGROUND The City of Orland is seeking support bar other cities, at no cost to them, in an amicus brief being prepared in its support regarding the use of the Landscaping and I_ ghting Act. The League of California Cit-tes LegaL Advocacy Committee has reviewed this case and has decoded to urge cities to join in the amicus brief. This appeal invol,wes the ability of cities to fund improvements and maintenance t.hrcugh the Landscaping and Lighting Act of 1972 and through other special a:asessment acts. RECOMMENDATION Authorize support of the amicus brief En Knox v. City of Orland regarding the Landscaping and Ii,htinq Act of 1972. Foundation, on behalf of the plaintiffs, sought review in t -ie 'al_ifornia Supreme Court. On September 19, 1991, the Suj --em_. Court granted review.
