(SCWC) is a nonprofit, non- partisan, public education partnership dedicated to informing-Southern Californians about our water needs and our state's water resources. Spanning Los Angeles, orange, San Diego, San Bernardino, Riverside, Ventura, Kern and Imperial counties, the SCWC's members include representatives from business, government, agriculture, water agencies and the general public. Goals: To ensure an adequate, reliable, high quality water supply statewide by maximizing California's water resources for the b(,nefit of current and future generat i oT s Programs: The SCWC i,.latliers and disseminates to the general public information on California water issues including water quality, conservatkon,, reliability of supply and affordabi ity fantors. Why SCWC? Southern California faces critical water supply challenges: about 70% of the water falls in the north, while 80% of the population is in the south. Staff Recommendation: Direct staff as deemed appropriate. In response to Council question, Councilmember Perez indicated that the cost of belonging to the Southern California Water Committee is $750.00 per year. MOTION: Councilmember Montgomery moved and Councilmember Perez seconded a motion to approve renewal of membership in the Southern California Water District and authorize an appropriation of funds from the General Fund Reservers to cover the cost of renewal.
