It maintains and protects lands until the appropriate park agency is able to accept it for long -term preservation. The Conservancy administers a large area of park lands including the Santa Monica Mountains and the Rim of the Valley, which runs from Pasadena to Moorpark. In July, 1991, AB 241 (McMlintock), the Santa Monica Conservancy Advisory Committee Bill, was signed by the Governor. This bill gives the City of Moorpark representation on the Conservancy Advisory Committee beginning in January 1992. This will guarantee the City input regarding future preservation efforts on the portion of the Rim of the Valley Trail within Moorpark as well as matters under consideration by the SMMC. The Advisory Committee meets the first and third Monday of every, month at 7:30 p.m., ending at approximately 10:30 p.m. The meetings are held within the various cities represented by the Conser-rancy. The City Council has the authority to appoint a City representative to the Conservancy Advisory Committee. The representative may be a Councilmember, a City staff- person, or a City resident. The cities of Westlake and Aguora Hills are represented by Councilmembers, Santa Clarita and Rancho Simi Park District appointed staff - persons, and th+ City rIf Los Angeles appointed a community representative. The Board and Committee meet twice a month, ;tt the same meeting. The meetings are designed such that the Advisor-y Committee takes action, in the form of a recommendation, on an agenda item. Immediately following, the Board votes to approve, modify or reject the Committee's recommendation. Board and Committee members have an opportunity to interact with each other during the meetings.
