Mary K_ Lindley, Assistant to the City Counci,
November 12, 1991 (Council Meeting 1.1/20)
Appointment of City Representative to the Santa
Monica Mountain Conservancy
The Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy (SMMC) acquires land through
federal or private funding, then improves it for safe public use.
It maintains and protects lands until the appropriate park agency
is able to accept it for long -term preservation. The Conservancy
administers a large area of park lands including the Santa Monica
Mountains and the Rim of the Valley, which runs from Pasadena to
Moorpark.
In July, 1991, AB 241 (McMlintock), the Santa Monica Conservancy
Advisory Committee Bill, was signed by the Governor. This bill
gives the City of Moorpark representation on the Conservancy
Advisory Committee beginning in January 1992. This will guarantee
the City input regarding future preservation efforts on the portion
of the Rim of the Valley Trail within Moorpark as well as matters
under consideration by the SMMC. The Advisory Committee meets the
first and third Monday of every, month at 7:30 p.m., ending at
approximately 10:30 p.m. The meetings are held within the various
cities represented by the Conser-rancy.
The City Council has the authority to appoint a City representative
to the Conservancy Advisory Committee. The representative may be
a Councilmember, a City staff- person, or a City resident. The
cities of Westlake and Aguora Hills are represented by
