CI Council Meeting
of IA.>/ /9' 1991
A ON: 72,977-71277/i; pd
TO: HONORABLE CITY COUNCIL y ./
FROM: RICHARD HARE, DEPUTY CITY MANAe I kr B Aire,.
DATE: June 14, 1991
SUBJECT: CONSIDER RENEWAL OF EMPLOYEE HEALTH INSURANCE
Background
The employee health insurance program has been provided through the
City's carrier, Western Life, since 1989 . The City pays 100% of
the employee and dependent health insurance premiums.
The current six month policy will lapse on June 30th and staff has
reviewed the program in an attempt to obtain a continuation of the
policy for six months. Western Life will not offer a longer policy
term. Longer term policies are available through the Southern
California Joint Powers Insurance Authority and the Cochella Valley
Insurance Authority, however the benefits offered do not match the
current benefits of the Western Life plan.
Recommendation
Direct staff to meet with the employees to discuss the various
health insurance program options which result in a premium savings
to the City and report back to the City Council on June 24th.
