CALIFORNIA • City cotta meeting sY P AGENDA REPORT CITY OF MOORPARK TO: The Honorable City Council FROM: Steven Kueny, City Manager DATE: April 16, 1993 (CC Meeting of April 21, 1993) SUBJECT: Consider Endorsement of Moorpark Chamber of Commerce Business Building Business (BBB) Program and Cosponsorship of Shop Moorpark Campaign The Moorpark Chamber of Commerce has been in the planning stage for a "Shop Moorpark" campaign. The Chamber has recently developed a "Business Building Business" (BBB) program which is a 12-month promotion plan including a series of events. The Shop Moorpark campaign is a component of the BBB program. The Council has previously received a copy of the BBB program outline. Chamber representatives recently presented the BBB program to the City Council's Economic Development/Affordable Housing Committee (Councilmembers Hunter and Perez) . The Committee recommends the endorsement of the BBB program and cosponsorship of the Shop Moorpark campaign with the Moorpark Chamber of Commerce. The City's cosponsorship role will primarily consist of installing approximately 15 to 18 signs and placing Shop Moorpark messages on the City's cable television government channel. As recommended by the Committee, the signs will be 30" x 36" with a reflective surface of either aluminum or polyplate material. The signs will have a yellow background with green and white letters with the phrase, "Work Where You Must But Live and Shop In Moorpark." The cost of the signs, related hardware and other material will not exceed $1,500.00, including a few signs to be warehoused to allow quick replacement of damaged signs. The City will install the signs on existing posts or poles where possible, and installation will be done by City forces. The signs are expected to be available two to four weeks after the order is placed. The funding source for the signs could be: 1 , The Honorable City Council Agenda Report - Shop Moorpark Campaign & BBB Program Page 2 April 16, 1993 1. General Fund Reserve; 2 . Redevelopment Agency; or 3 . A portion of the $30, 000 of Gann Funds set aside for Economic Development. Staff recommends use of Gann Funds for this purpose. The Chamber of Commerce has proposed nine (9) locations using a single post with two (2) signs. Staff and the Committee will work with the Chamber to finalize locations and whether or not to use double-sided signs. The messages on cable television will be reviewed and approved by City staff responsible for those matters. RECOMMENDATION: (Roll Call Vote) The Economic Development/Affordable Housing Committee and staff recommend: 1. Endorsement of the Moorpark Chamber of Commerce and Business Building Business program. 2 . Cosponsorship with the Moorpark Chamber of Commerce of the Shop Local campaign consistent with this report. 3. Approve use of $1,500.00 of Gann Funds for the Shop Moorpark signs.
