This requests approval of a change order to add to that scope of work the construction of an asphalt overlay on Campus Park Drive (both east bound and west bound) between Collins Drive and Marquette Street. In 1990, that portion of Campus Park Drive east of Collins Drive received an asphalt overlay. This work was done as a part of the City's last contract to overlay streets. B. Slurry Seal Project The scope of work for the 1993 Slurry Seal Project includes the application of Type II slurry to several arterial and collector streets. one of the arterial streets to receive this treatment is Campus Park Drive. In assessing the condition of this street, however, it became apparent that the condition of that segment of this street between Collins Drive and Marquette Street is not suitable for slurry seal. The proper resurfacing treatment for this street segment would be an asphalt overlay with some removal & replacement areas. Type II Slurry Seal on Campus Park Drive will be limited to the remaining portion of rp \rpt \ovrly_co Asphalt Overlay Page 2 Campus Park Drive west of Marquette Street. C. Overlay Project On January 20, 1993 the City Council awarded a contract to Nye & Nelson, Inc. for the construction of an Asphalt Overlay on Peach Hill Road and on that portion of Tierra Rejada Road near the Route 23 interchange. It is recommended that the a Contract Change Order be approved to add the work required on Campus Park Drive to this contract. The cost of that work is summarized as follows: Additional Quantities ..................... $49,924.47 Change Order for additional Items ......... $11,467.53 Total $61,392.00 The amount of the contract awarded for Asphalt Overlay Project is $285,055.40. The City Manager was granted authority to approve change orders up to ten percent ($28,505) of the contract amount. The addition of the subject work requires City Council action. E. Fiscal Impact 1. Revised Project Cost Estimate: The recommended action would adjust the project cost estimate as follows: Current Additional Revised Element Contract Work Total FY 1991/1992 Design 13,800 13,800 FY 1992/1993 Construction 285,055 61,392 346,447 Contract Admin. & 18,000 0 18,000 Inspection Contingency (10 %) 30,945 6,000 36,945 Total FY 1992/93 334,000 67,392 401,392 Project Total 347,800 67,392 415,192 vp\rp[\ovrly_oo Asphalt Overlay Page 3 2. Proposed Budget Amendment: The currently approved budget amount for the project is $334,000 (Fund 03 -- Gas Tax). If the recommended action is approved, it will be necessary to increase the budget amount by $70,000, to $404,000. The amount of the reserve in the Gas Tax Fund is more than sufficient to fund the proposed increase. RECOMI+ISNMTION (Roll Call Vote Rewired) Staff recommend that the City Council take the following actions: 1) Approve the proposed change in the scope of work to include the overlay of a portion of Campus Park Drive. 2) Approve an increase in appropriations from the Gas Tax fund and an adjustment to the budgeted amount for the project from $334,000 to $404,000. 3 ) Approve a ten per cent contingency for the project and authorize the City Manager to approve additional work, if required, not to exceed ten per cent (10 %) of the revised contract price. vp \rpt \ovrly_co
