SUBJECT: MANAGEMENT SKILLS WORKSHOP
In accordance with the Moorpark Qparating Procedure No 1 -
Meetings and Conference Expense.' This memorandum is being
forwarded to the Council so as to approve the Director's attendance
at a workshop regarding Management Skills for Planners.
The MOP No. 1 requires that when irie cost of registrati ,`- .odging,
meals, etc. are at City expensE? e City 'council must a bve such
expenditure.
It is the intention of the D rector to attend the American
Institute of Certified Planners, Management Skills for Planners
Workshop on March 21, - 23, i. 30 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The
estimated cost associated with he rirector's attendance is as
follows:

Air Transportation 160.00
Hotel x 3 nights 210.00
Meals 90.00
Airport to hotel. transportatLen., 30.00
Total $815.00
The remaining budget for conferf rice attendance is $4,852 for FY
1989/90.

conducted by Frank Bucaro, is based on the premise
that "a goal is a dream with deadlines," You'll learn:
• why you should categorize goals
• twelve steps to reach attainable goals
• how to use a goal - planning system
• time management principles and their application

with different personalities in the workplace and to
find positive ways to deal with varying opinions. It is

times their presentations are too long, laced with
jargon, and accompanied by confusing charts, graphs and
slide shows. The public goes away misinformed or
dissatisfied, public officials wonder "why it took so long to
get to the point," and planners are frustrated. But it can be
better! Communications specialist Elaine Cogan will show
you how to organize your material, tailor your message to
specific audiences, control stage fright, make suitable room
arrangements, answer hostile questions, and use visual aids
effectively.

Planning tells you how to win in the political process. It
gives strategies that will help get the job done and identifies
the most common traits of successful planners and planning

planners. It's a cookbook with tested recipes for manageing
an organization and providing professional leadership while

People reveals straightforward, encouraging tips on how
anyone can become a winning speaker. In clear, concise

REGISTRATION
To register, complete the registration form and return it
to AICP. Early registration fees apply until three
weeks before each workshop (Orlando— February 5,
Las Vegas— February 28) Registration forms postmarked by
this date will qualify for the early registration fee. The
registration fee covers attendance at sessions, workshop
materials, and coffee breaks. The student member and
nonmember registration fees apply to full -time students.
Proof of full-time student status must accompany your
registration.
CANCELLATIONS —All cancellations must be received in
writing. A full refund will made to anyone whose
cancellation is postmarked two weeks before the workshop.
After that, $50 will be deducted from the refund. No part of
the registration fee will be refunded for cancellations
postmarked after the workshop begins. Substitute

300 for each APA Member in the group
335 for each Nonmember in the group
