Newhouse, Director of Community Services DATE: February 13, 1990 SUBJECT: Consider Parks and Recreation Commissioner Attendance to Art in Nature Workshop in Santa Barbara on April 26, 27 and 28, 1990 The Santa Barbara Arts Commission will be hosting an Art in Nature Workshop in Santa Barbara on April 26, 27 and 28. The workshop will focus on: o Incorporation of public art in park design; o The community process of placing public art; o Changing cultural demographics and park usage; o Development and maintenance of a park art collection; o The collaborative design process; o Creation of art parks; o Public art as crime deterrent. The newly formed City Arts Committee has reviewed this and recommended the Parks and Recreation Commission fund the registration fee ($90) for the Committee Chairperson to attend this workshop as the Art Committee does not have adequate funds available. Staff indicated to the Commission this is not an approved meeting and funds were not appropriated for this workshop. Funds were only appropriated for the C.P. R.S. conference in San Diego. However, if the Commission was supportive of the workshop, funds need be approved for attendance. 799 Moorpark Avenue Moorpark, California 93021 (805) 529-6864 PKPAGEDA The Honorable City Council Page 2 February 13, 1990 The Commission unanimously recommends the City Council approve funds in the amount of $90 to cover the cost of the workshop registration fee for Teresa Radich' s attendance, Arts Committee Chairperson.
