Gilbert, Director of Public Wo DATE: February 27, 1990 (City Council: 3-7-90) SUBJECT: Authorization to Advertise for Receipt of Bids for the 1990 Slurry Seal Project OVERVIEW This presents for consideration a request for authorization to advertise for receipt of bids for the subject projects. DISCUSSION A. Background The Public Works Department is developing a bi-annual slurry seal program as a part of the City's overall pavement managing program. As a part of that effort, data has been compiled relative to pavement maintenance efforts over the past few years. This analysis shows that the City's last Slurry Seal Project was in 1987. In addition, a field survey was conducted for the purpose of identifying candidate streets for inclusion in the 1990 Slurry Seal Program. Areas of Work The streets identified as being in need of slurry seal are shown on Exhibit 1. A list of the estimated quantities of slurry to be applied is set forth in Exhibit 2. In addition, the plans call for: 1) the removal and replacement of asphalt in poor condition at certain designated locations; and, 2) the application of an asphalt leveling course to fill depressions where required. C. Specifications The Plans and Specifications for the project are complete and have been provided to the City Council for review under separate cover. D. Schedule It is anticipated that bids for the subject project will be opened in mid -April, and presented to the City Council for consideration on May 2. Asphalt repairs are anticipated to be completed in May, followed by the application of Slurry Seal in June. E. Fiscal Impact 1. Budget Transfer Elsewhere on the Agenda this meeting is a Request for Authorization to Advertise for Receipt of Bids for the replacement of curbs, gutters and sidewalk at various locations throughout the City. The Engineer's Estimate for that project is an amount which is more than the funds budgeted.
