would inc=lude about 1,200 feet. if curb, gutter, and an 8 foot
sidewalk. The need for the pro, jec+ is caused by the lack of a sidewalk
which impedes pedestrian movement, In addition school children must
cross at Roberts Avenue under the °upervision of a crossing guard. The
pedestrian way (ped -way) from below Flinn t.., :r LA Avenue on the east side
of Spring Road will be construct -od is part of TOPA PD 1064. The
ped -way from Roberts to LA Avenue +r tie west side of Spring Road will
be constructed by the City. `!e 1.A Avenue SB 821 project, in
conjunction with the TOPA and Ci!y project, will provide pedestrian
access to a signalized crossing at LA Avenue and Spring Road. Access
to the signalized crossing will si nif c:antly improvement in pedestrian
safety.
High Street on the north side between Bard Street and Magnolia Avenue.
The total estimated cost of the project. is $85,000 (see Table 2 for
detail of project costs). ,It- would be funded half from Article 3 (SB
821) and half from Article 8a Local Transportation Funds. The project
would include about 400 feet o-F c( rb, gutter, and a 20 foot sidewalk.
The need for the project is caused by the lack of a sidewalk which
results in intermingling of vehil, le ind pedestrian traffic. Adding
this final segment will complete .ed -ways on the north side of High
Street, separate vehicle and pede 't.rian movement, and enhance safety.
A request for funding was made la, t. ytar but was not awarded. It may
be that our previous awards and it :rep <ingly competitive projects from
other agencies was the reason far• r i. i°(q iO ng funding
Both of these projects have merir in terms of safety and completing
ped -way links. However, the L.A Avenue project is also part of two
other projects in the same area ar -od enhanc=es school c=hildren crossing
safety on a state highway with higi triffi, volumes. These factors may
be important advantages in the :ori dF,rat!(, process.
