SUBJECT: Cinco De Mayo Event update Report.
BACKGROUND:
At the March 12, 1990, Council mee�ing, Council approved a request from
the Parks and Recreation Commission to sponsor a Cinco De Mayo event
and authorized expenditure of funds up to $2,000 from the Recreation
Special Events Account #33- 1148--'995 to covet, program expenses.
The event is to be held Saturday, May from 2:00 p.m. to 12:00
midnight at the Community Center Detail of the program are outlined
on the attached memorandum.
As presented, the event is to ut lizo thc, Community Center, M -P & A
Rooms and kitchen. The children' program and dance will be held in
the M -P Room. The A room will b ;et up with tables and chairs for
serving of food and alcoholic bcvot qF;

Dear Community Member,
The city of Moorpark and the Cinco de Mayo Planning
Committee extends to vt,u this invitation to the City's First
Annual Cinco de Mavo 4 'elebration, to be held Saturday, May 5,
1990.
A children's program will be conducted from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
at the Activity Room of the Community Center. This program is
co- sponsored by the Moorpark Youth Activities Committee and
will feature a bilingual magic show, pinata, and ballet
folklorico. Admisssion i s ,free I
A dance will be held from 7.00 p.m. to midnight in the
Community Room of the Community Center. The bands of local
residents Joe Lozano anti Dave Cota will play for your dancing
pleasure. The evening will highlight the coronation of Miss
Cinco de Mayo. Admission for the dance is $5.00. Tickets are
limited and sold on advanced basis only. Tickets can be
purchased at Robertc's Parber ,Shop at 71 High Street.
This first Cinco de Mays, celebration by the City of Moorpark is
the result of the cooperation of the City Council, Parks and
Recreation Commissioners, City Staff, Moorpark Youth Activities
Committee, the Knights if Columbus, and Las Guadalupanas.
Come share the celebration of an important aspect of
Moorpark's cultural here tage , pride and tradition.

At the February 12, 1990, Parks anti Recreation Commission meeting, the
Commission formed a subcommittee cr members Teresa Godinez and John
Torres to plan a Cinco De Mayo ev, tit . Cinco De Mayo is one of six
special events budgeted in the Recr(• t on Spocial Events budget.
The subcommittee met with member r) i the community; Councilmember
Bernardo Perez, Mrs. Sam N,inoa anti Vickie McGowan to discuss
ideas for celebrating Cinco De May
At the March 12 Parks and Ri reatior Commission meeting, the
subcommittee presented the followinf orograrr for consideration:
