HARE City Treasurer SUBJECT: Consideration of Bids for the Award of a Contract for the 1990 Slurry Seal Project OVERVIEW This presents a summary of the bids received for the subject project and a recommendation to award a contract for the work. DISCUSSION A. Background At your meting of March 7, the City Council authorized staff to advertise for receipt of bids for the subject project. B. Scope of Work The streets identified as being in need of slurry seal are shown on Exhibit 1. A list of the estimated quantities of slurry to be applied is set forth in Exhibit 2. In addition, the plans call for: 1) the removal and replacement of asphalt in poor condition at certain designated locations; and, 2) the application of an asphalt leveling course to fill depressions where required. 799 Moorpark Avenue Moorpark, California 93021 (805) 529-6864 1990 Slurry Seal Project Award of Contract Page 2 C. Bid Summary On May 7, bids were received, opened and tabulated. A summary comparison of the bids received is attached as Exhibit 3. D. Qualification The apparent low bidder, Asphalt Maintenance Company of California, is experienced in providing these services. Inquiries made to agencies which have used their services were favorable. Representatives of the company have confirmed their bid price and their interest in doing the work. E. Fiscal Imnact The amount budgeted (03-1142-903-025) for this project, as amended by the City Council on March 7, is $170,000. Project expenses to date are for the review of the specifications by the City Engineer's Office ($300) and printing costs ($240). Total amount of expense to date is $540. Award a contract for the 1990 Slurry Seal Project to Asphalt Maintenance Company of California in the amount of $109,603.36. Note: The contract price is based upon the unit prices bid applied to an estimated quantity of items of work. 2. Approve a ten per cent (10%) contingency for the project and authorize the City Manager to approve additional work, if required, for an amount not to exceed ten per cent (10%) of the contract price. 3.
