Senior Deputy David Lea began working as the City of Moorpark's
first Community Services Officer in November 1986. He was
selected for this :assignment by his supervisors because of his
dedicated effort, always going beyond what is expected.
As the city's first Community Services Officer he was faced with
a bifurcated job assignment, interacting with the community and
the city "s schools to provide crime prevention information.
More specifically, his responsibilities included the
establishment of a Neighborhood Watch Program throughout the
city, working with the business community and establishing
rapport with the youths of the cit-z.
In response to the city and school district's commitment to
provide substance abuse education in the city_a schools, the
Drug Abuse Education (DARE) Program began in 1987. Senior
Deputy Lea has been the city's DARE instructor since that time
instructing the DARE curriculum to Flory School's fifth grade
students. All current Chaparral. Middle School students have
previously received DARE instruction.
Dave believes very strongly that the future of this country is
in the hands of our, children_ His commitment to excellence has
been clearly evident throughout his tenure. He has established
an excellent rapport with the Moorpark Unified School District's
staffs, at all their campuses. His many speaking engagements
have made him a popular figure in the city.
In 1989 when Flory School honored him by dedicating their first
yearbook to him_ In May of this year he was honored by the
Rotary Club'as Moorpark's Officer Of The Year_ Clearly his
contributions to the city have been many and he will be missed_
