DATE: July 24, 1990 (Council. Meeting 8 -1 -90)
SUBJECT: Consider the Restriction of Over Night Parking on a

of Marquette Street
OVERVIEW
This presents for consideration a Resolution prohibiting over
night parking on Campus Park Drivf> in the vicinity of Griffin
Park.
DISCUSSION
A. Recent Action
In recent months City Council has enacted certain new traffic
control measures and parking restrictions along Campus Park
Drive in an effort to improve vehicular and pedestrian
safety.
B. Evaluation
The implementation and impact of these (and previously
existing) traffic measures are being re- evaluated by the City
Engineer. When and if improvements or refinements are deemed

C. Pedestrian Safety Near Griffin Park
One such improvement is recommended at this time. There have
been no parking restrictions imposed on that portion of
Campus Park Drive next to Griffin Park. Parking has been
permitted this area in order to provide convenient parking
for visitors to the park. An unforeseen side effect of this
absence of parking controls has been the parking of vehicles
in this area for extended periods of time. In the opinion
of staff, this practice is incompatible with the high level
of pedestrian use associated with a park.
The parking of vehicles for extended periods of time could
be prevented by prohibiting over night parking in the area.
This would still allow for parkinq normally associated with
the use of the park.
RECOMMENDATION
Adopt. the attached resolution prohibiting parking in the subject
area between the hours of 10:00 P.M. and 6:00 A.M.
