Gilbert, Director of Public r s May 9, 1990 (Council Meeting 5- 16 -90) Truck Weigh Station or Route L18 West of the City This requests clarification and re- confirmation of Council direction on efforts to place a Truck Weigh Station on Los Angeles Avenue at the west end c• for west of) the City. DISCUSSION A. Background For some time now the City h..is express concern about over weight truck traffic using Route 118 through Moorpark. It is apparent that truck traffic uses the route through the City of Moorpark in order to avoid the Conejo Truck Scales on Route 101 in Newbury Park. Staff has been working with representatives of Caltrans, ind otaers in an effort to remedy of this situation. B. City's Proposal The solution recommended by t:.e City is the construction of a new truck weigh station or. Route 118 near the westerly City Limit. An alternative vhich has been discussed, is the designation of a site (i; that same general area) to allow for the placement of a 'mobile" truck scale. Such a site would permit California lighway Patrol (CHP) Officers to operate a weigh stat.i in that area on an intermittent 799 Moorpark Avenue Moorpark, California 93021 (805) 529 -6864 Weigh Station May 16, 1990 Page 2 basis. The City's proposal included an offer to participate in the costs ° land acquisition for this facility. C. Caltrans' Response Caltrans officials have beer. less than enthusiastic about the City's proposal. In discussions with staff, reference has been made to a study which assess the relative merits of candidate sites. The sate suggested by the City is apparently not considered i:: that report. Instead, the location which seems to be generating the most interest from State Officials is a s.te on Route 101 north of the Highway 33 junction, along in area known as the Rincon. Such a facility would allow 'HP officials to check north - south traffic at a point n(r.th of the intersection with Routes 33, 126 and 118. It s the ✓iew of State officials that locating the facility .;it this point would be more cost effective than citing and m,,r.-An -j we iqh stations at several locations.
