SUBJECT: CALLING OF ELECTION TO FILL COUNCIL VACANCY
Ordinance No. 77, requires the City Council to fill a vacancy by
calling a special election to fill the remainder of an unexpired
term within the time periods provided in Section 36512.2 of the
Government Code.

Attached is an election calendar showing the election being called
on November 21, 1990 and the nomination period as December 6
through December 28, 1990. Should the Council wait until the
December 5, 1990 City Council meeting to call the election, the
nomination period 'would be shortened to allow for publication of
the Notice of Election. (The nomination period can be shortened,
start on December 10th for example, but by the 68th day before the
election or December 28th, the nomination period must close).
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Adopt the attached Resolution 90- Calling and giving notice of
the holding of the special municipal election on March 5, 1991 to
fill the vacancy of the unexpired term of Councilmember;
