Peach Hill Park - Overseeding Park Turf
This item was previously presented to you at your October 17,
1990 Council meeting (see attached report). Staff and the
City's landscape contractor, Turf -Pro, have re- examined the
park to further ascertain the current turf condition. Our
re- examination of the turf showed substantial new and
vigorous growth of Bermuda grass occurring. However, it was
agreed an overseeding of the area would enhance and quicken
the establishment of the turf.
OVERSEEDING•
Based upon the current condition of the park, staff is
recommending the area to be seeded under this proposal, be
limited to the softball outfield and area adjacent to the
ballfield (see attached diagram). The overseeding can be
done by staff and the landscape contractor under our current
maintenance contract.
Staff anticipates the overseeding will be done in March 1991
which will close the softball diamond through May or June.
This work will not interfere with the adult softball program
as staff anticipates dropping one season of play at the park
to allow for turf repair and rejuvenation. We would have
three, ten to twelve week seasons in 1991 and early 1992.
Additional cost associated with this project would be the
purchase of the grass seed and top mix cover material.

COSTS:
Staff contacted Albright Seed Company of Camarillo for seed
amount and cost to overseed three acres of turf. Albright
Seed Company estimates 20 pounds of seed per acre for a total
of 60 pounds of seed at a cost of $2.13 /pound - $127.80.
Additionally, staff contacted Agroman Corporation for top mix
material amount and cost. Agroman estimates one cubic yard
of top mix material per 1,000 square foot of coverage. An
acre of land equals 43,560 square feet times three acres
equals 130,680 square feet of area to be covered. This area
will require 131 cubic feet of material. Agroman cost for
the top mix delivered to the site is $19.12 per cubic yard
for a total cost of $2,504.72.
Product Costs
Bermuda Seed 60 lbs x $2.13/lb. $ 127.80
