Director of Community Development R. DENNIS DELZEIT City Engineer JOHN V. GILLESPIE Chief of Police RICHARD T. HARE City Treasurer DATE: November 30, 1990 (City Council 12 -5 -90) SUBJECT: Scheduling of an Additional Monthly City Council Meeting The City Council has expressed an interest in adding an additional Council meeting to the current twice monthly regularly scheduled meetings. The regular meetings of the City Council are set by Ordinance. The Council could amend Ordinance No. 85, Fixing Times for Regular Council Meetings; or, rather than formally adopting a new meeting schedule, could determine to hold, in addition to the regularly scheduled meetings, an adjourned (or special) meeting on the second and fourth week of each month. Items from the prior two regularly scheduled meetings, uncompleted because of time constraints, could be carried on the adjourned meeting agenda. In addition, public hearings, with prior Council action could be scheduled .for this additional meeting. No new items would be added to the agenda. This additional meeting could also be used for extended closed session matters. Items could also be scheduled to minimize the need for most staff to attend more than two meetings. Another consideration is the cost for attendance by the City Attorney. A four -hour meeting would cost between $600 and $700 but some savings from shorter regular meetings may be realized. While an adjourned meeting would require the preparation of an additional set of minutes, expended in attendance at the the preparation or processing and require staff time to be meeting, it would not require of another agenda packet. 799 Moorpark Avenue Moorpark, California 93021 (805) 529 -6864
