HARE City Clerk MEMORANDUM City Treasurer To: The Honorable City Council / ✓ i.00PPARK, CALIFORNIA From: John F. Knipe, City Engineer/ of Co99J9 Date: July 17, 1990 ACTION: /.1L IF. 19/ Subject: PEACH HILL ROAD EXTENSION STRIPING '" , By %% /1 err BACKGROUND INFORMATION / At its July 11, 1990 meeting, the Council considered various alternative street widths and striping patterns for the Peach Hill Road extension. Although the Council selected a 40' street width, staff did not gain a clear understanding as to whether a specific striping pattern was selected. Therefore, staff has identified the three alternatives shown in Exhibit "A". Alternative "C", which provides for 4.5' bike lanes, was developed based on Caltrans requirements (see attached) that a Class II bike lane provide a minimum width of not only 4' overall , but also 3' from the edge of gutter. Because the standard gutter width for Peach Hill Road is 1.5' , the minimum width for a striped bike lane would be 4.5' . RECOMMENDED ACTION That alternative striping pattern "B" be selected for implementation until such time as the Carlsberg Development occurs. At that time, the three identified alternatives can be re-evaluated and changes made if necessary.
