Scenario 3•
Advertise in paper for suggested name for the park. Commission review
names and submit to Council, if a name selected for naming the park.
If that name is selected for name of the park, person be given a
certificate recognizing them for submitting name.
Scenario #3 was approved by a 4-to-1 vote; Commissioner Roberts voting
against.
In the interim, between March and August, staff did not implement the
contest; Commissioner Nainoa researched the history and background of
the park area. At the August 8 Commission meeting, Commissioner Nainoa
presented his information to the Commission which took the following
action:
1. Rescind their previous recommendation to hold a
community-wide contest.
2. Approved Commissioner Na.inoa's recommendation to name the
park "Arroyo Vista Community Park."
At the August 3 City Council meeting, Council reviewed and referred
this item back to the Parks and Recreation Commission with the
following direction:
1. Follow up on developing competition for naming the park.
2. An activity be scheduled at the proposed park site before it
is developed.
At the September 12 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting, the
Commission moved to recommend to the City Council:
1. Contest rules and applications be distributed September 28
through the school flyer system, and the contest finalist to
be judged by the Parks and Recreation Commission and the
winner announced October 15. The final park name will be
determined by the City Council.
2. If this timetable is not adhered to, then our previous Motion
be reenacted.
3. This item be submitted to Council at their meeting of
September 14, 1988.
